AHC is excited to announce our 2027 Annual Conference, to be held in-person on May 21 and 22 at the Sheraton Mission Valley San Diego Hotel in San Diego, CA! This year's conference theme is Humanism for Liberation: Decolonization, Self-Determination and Authenticity.

Humanistic counseling is built on the foundation of irreducibility, valuing the inherent dignity of human beings, and fostering a space of freedom to allow for authentic growth. This perspective is extremely important when systems and societal pressures exist to restrict and dehumanize an ever-expanding group of people. Humanism for Liberation: Decolonization, Self-Determination and Authenticity seeks to harness the power of passionate, humanistically-oriented counselors, educators, supervisors, students, researchers and advocates to build community, contribute knowledge, and work towards enacting liberatory change. Through emphasizing voices, ways of being, stories, epistemologies, and ideas that are not always centered in humanistic discourse, we can meet the current moment with a humanism for the current moment: a Humanism for Liberation.

As always, we welcome proposals that highlight the conference theme and bring new, innovative ideas to the AHC community.

Proposals are encouraged to align with the conference theme. The following presentation formats will be offered at the 2027 conference:

·       50-minute education session

·       50-minute roundtable session

·       30-minute poster presentation

In support of our student members, we strongly encourage students to submit proposals for a 30-minute poster presentation on original research or a topic of interest.

We will also be offering three scholarly tracks that proposers will select: Clinical Supervision, Counselor Education & Pedagogy, and Counseling Practice. Please select the one that best aligns with your proposal.

(1) Clinical Supervision: These sessions offer insight, advancements, and lived experiences of clinical supervision. 

(2) Counselor Education & Pedagogy: These sessions offer insight, best practices, and lived experiences of counselor educators within the realm of teaching and pedagogy.

(3) Counseling Practice: These sessions offer insight, application, best practices, trends, and lived experiences of counselors within their clinical work with clients.

Proposals will be submitted using the following link by Friday, November 6, 2026:  2027 AHC Conference Proposal

Each individual may be included in up to 2 proposed presentations and there may be a maximum of 4 presenters on each proposal submission. The AHC conference committee will review and notify applicants of their acceptance in December 2026. 

The components of the proposal are as follows: Names, email contacts, and highest degrees earned/credentials for all presenters, program summary (200 words max), program description (500 words max), 3-5 learning objectives, 3-5 keywords, and APA reference list.

Note that all AHC proposal submissions are peer-reviewed, and all presenters of accepted presentations are required to register for the conference. The first presenter will be notified of proposal decisions and agree to sharing this with other members of their proposal/presenting team.
